Elkton resident Noah Day, 22, a lieutenant with the North East Fire Company in Cecil County, was struck by a vehicle while attempting to cross the Coastal Highway on Monday, June 20.

“The Maryland State Firemen’s Association sends deepest condolences to the North East Fire Company on the loss of Lt. Noah Day,” the agency posted online. “Please pray for the Day family and Noah’s fire service brothers and sisters during this extremely difficult time.”

First responders were dispatched to the site of the crash on Coastal Highway near 47th Street shortly after 9:30 p.m. on Monday night after Day was struck, police said.

The driver, a 44-year-old Worcester County man from Berlin reportedly remained at the scene and assisted police with the investigation, which is ongoing.

The Ocean City Traffic Safety Unit is investigating the cause of the crash, though they noted that alcohol was determined not to be a factor for the driver, whose name has not been released.

“The First Lady and I would like to express our deepest condolences to the family of Lt. Noah Day and all of the members of the North East Fire Company on this devastating loss,” Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan stated.

Anyone with information regarding the fatal incident has been asked to email PFC Ramirez at yramirez@oceancitymd.gov or crimetips@oceancitymd.gov, or by calling the police tip line at (410) 520-5136 or the department directly at (410) 723-6610 and referencing case number 2022-002616.

Each June, the Maryland State Firemen’s Association gathers for its annual Convention and Conference to conduct the business of the association and to “provide insightful training and educational sessions for its membership,” officials said.

This year it was held between Saturday, June 18, and Thursday, June 23.
